Myrna Darby - Photo by Alfred Cheney Johnston
“Born in Pittsburgh, Myrna Darby, appeared in six Ziegfeld productions—“No Foolin’,” “Rio Rita,” “Follies of 1927,” “Rosalie,” “Three Muskateers,” and “Whoopee”—before her death from an inflammation of the heart at age 21. She fell ill during the run of “Whoopee” and though reputedly one of the highest paid showgirls in New York, left an estate of only $750. Strikingly photogenic, she was one of the most photographed of the Ziegfeld girls in the 1920s. Johnston’s images are generally reckoned the finest taken of the short-lived beauty.” - David S.
